About Our School

Faett's ATA Black Belt Academy has been offering instruction and training in Taekwondo since 2005. Located in Lansing, MI, Faett's ATA Black Belt Academy has produced champions in life as well as in the martial arts.

Headed by John Henry Faett IV (Fourth Degree Black Belt/Chief Instructor) and a staff of expert instructors and managers, including Master Carl Flotka, Joseph N. Lance, Yvette Sims, Lauren Blanks, Greg Neal. Faett's ATA Black Belt Academy offers a number of programs for physical fitness and instruction in Taekwondo.

Meet Our Staff

John Henry Faett IV  (Fourth Degree Black Belt/Chief Instructor

Mr. Faett is a 4th degree Black Belt and certified Instructor with the American Taekwondo Association. Mr. Faett started in martial arts at the age of 7. He recieved his first degree black belt in 1995 under Timothy C. Halcomb (5th Degree Black Belt/Chief Instructor of West Bloomfield ATA Black Belt Academy). In college Mr. Faett Trained with Master Carl Flotka, Former Owner of the lansing ATA Black Belt Academy. Mr. Faett became the official owner of the academy on August 31, 2005. He is also an accomplished competitor in the ATA holding 5 state titles and is an MSU Graduate.

Master Carl Flotka  (6th Degree Black Belt/Head Advisor)

Master C. Flotka has over 30 years of teaching experience with the ATA. He owned the lansing ATA Black Belt Academy since 1988, recently he decided to pass the torch of school ownership to one of his most trusted students Mr. John Faett. Master Flotka Recieved his 6th degree in 1999 and also holds the 1992 World Title in ATA Taekwondo. Recently Master Flotka has taken on an advisory position at the academy.

Joseph N. Lance  (6th Degree Black Belt/Head Advisor)

Mr. Lance has over 30 years of teaching experience with the ATA and is very much involved with the instruction of many students of the academy. He holds the 1996 World Title for ATA taekwondo and is known at the academy for his expertise in self defense. Mr. Lance also won the 2005 national title in weapons and will test for his mastership at world championships in june 2006.

Yvette Sims  (3rd Degree Black Belt/Program Director)

Mrs. Sims has 10 years of experience with the ATA and has run the offices of Lansing ATA for a number of years. Along with being a great program director, Mrs. Sims is also a certified Instructor with the ATA.

Ms. Lauren Blanks (3rd Degree Black Belt and Level 2 Specialty Trainee Instructor)

Ms. Blanks has been training in Songham Taekwondo for over 10 years and is CPR certified. Ms. Blanks started her training in 1995 at 5 years old in Austintown, Ohio and achieved the rank of 1 st Degree Black Belt in 1997 and 2 nd Degree Black Belt in 1998. Ms. Blanks moved to Lansing in July of 1999 and chose to continue her Taekwondo training under the direction of Master Carl Flotka (former owner of Faett’s ATA Black Belt Academy). Ms. Blanks achieved the rank of 3 rd Degree Black Belt in 2002. Ms. Blanks is an 8-Time ATA Top Ten Competitor, 5-Time ATA World Champion (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 & 2004) in sparring, 2-Time ATA National Weapons Champion (2001 & 2002) and 5-Time ATA Michigan State Champion in forms, sparring and weapons (2001 thru 2005). Ms. Blanks is Mr. Faett’s chief assistant for the ATA extreme program and is the leader of Mr. Faett’s school demonstration team.
